One word describes Sim’s Hostel: One-of-a-kind! (OK, four words!)
Whether you are heading out or returning from a trip in Sichuan or beyond, Sim’s is a welcoming and warm place to call home.
Located in northern Chengdu, Sim’s is an oasis that rests behind huge doors opening to a grass and bamboo courtyard. Once inside, it’s impossible not to look around and wonder if you are in a tree house in Tahiti! Once a factory, Sim’s imagination immediately cut through the clutter of the industrial mess and created an experience that is not to be missed.
This is not a hotel in the traditional sense, it is a full-service hostel with all the trimmings. If you picture a hostel as a roudy hangout for college backpackers, you would be very mistaken. Yes, there are young people carrying their life’s possessions on their backs, heading off to any number of exciting destinations. But there are plenty of other backpackers ranging in age from their late 20’s to late 70’s.
No matter your age, you will find Sim’s to be very comfortable with rooms to fit almost any budget and number of people. Lately, Sim’s has seen families stay with them and use their services.
Sim’s offers a comprehensive service well beyond a place to stay. They have a travel desk where you can book any tour they have to offer. From a morning visit to the panda breeding centre to a city tour, the travel desk can fix you up. Thinking of a much larger trip? They can set that up too. You will sit with their on-site trip consultant and create your ideal experience. Wanting to outfit a larger expedition? You guessed it, they do that too.
If you plan on staying in Chengdu for several days – and I suggest you do – there is a lot to see in the area, Sim’s has an extensive library of books and DVDs if you want to just chill and stay close to home.
The rooms at Sim’s are each air conditioned, immaculate, have full bathrooms with sit down toilets and my favorite: really comfy pillows! In addition, there is an internet loft, a great bar and a menu that caters to all tastes. Upstairs, there are several places to take a book and read or have your food brought up while you sit in comfort inside or on one of several bamboo balconies.

Sim's welcomes travelers from around the world. Need to hook up with some others on a trip? Then, leave a message or respond to one on the message board. This ground floor hall way leads to the bar, the restaurant and more rooms.
Leaving Sim’s, I looked back as their private car took me to the airport and vowed I’d be back soon. This is the feeling you get after even one night in the bamboo and grass tree house!
